Evidence against mechanistic materialism

27/12/2004

Please understand that this is not an attempt to attack science, but rather to question the metaphysics of mechanistic materialism. Science knows no ideology and whatever exists has to be natural and cannot be such a thing as 'unnatural'. Hence if humans have souls and there are more evolved entities than us in nature, which we sometimes call gods, then these facts are also natural and scientific and have to be investigated. There is no logic in believing that only a universe made of 'inanimate' and mechanical matter is scientific, while a universe filled with entities, which may be immaterial to our five senses, is not. So here is an evidence that the Universe is not just made of atoms as the mechanistic science perceives it at the moment.

Empirical evidence

1. Telepathy  evidence1  evidence2  evidence3
2. Telekinesis  evidence
3. Hypnotic past life regressions where a person speaks ancient languages evidence
4. Remote viewing and out-of-body experiences (OBE) evidence
5. Spiritual healing of babies and animals - which cannot be a placebo effect evidence
6. Near death experiences (NDE) evidence1  evidence2
7. Reincarnation – recollections of previous lives by adults and children evidence1 evidence2 evidence3 evidence4
8. Religious miracles and the power of prayer evidence1  evidence2  evidence3
9. Spiritualistic and poltergeist phenomena evidence1  evidence2
10. Levitation evidence
11. Yogic powers and the existence of Spiritual Masters evidence
12. Yogi who live without food or water evidence

Common evidence which can happen to anyone

1. Remote sensing of death, disaster or some other powerful experience to a very closely related person - cases like:

• Mothers who strongly felt the precise moment of death of their sons at war
• Children who telepathically sensed the moment of death of their parents
• Couples, or in other ways closely related persons, where one person remotely sensed that the other had had an accident, was in danger, or had broken off the relationship

2. Precognition of future events in such detail as to rule out random probability as an explanation

• Dreams which predict the exact details of a future event
• Dreaming of somebody whom we have neither met nor been thinking about for a long time just before we actually meet or receive a message from them
• Weird psychic strangers who know intimate details of our past and guess some of our future events in trivial detail

3. Vibrational sensing of people and places

• Sensing that a person or a place has “bad vibes” or a healing influence
• Feeling of impending danger irrespective of physical signs

4. Expansion of consciousness, mystical or religious experience

• Experience of unity with nature
• Experience of godliness
• Experience of a holy person or place
• Experience of deep meditation or prayer

5. Sense that somebody is staring at our back  evidence

6. Sense who it is that is calling us before we answer the phone  evidence

Logical or philosophical evidence

1. Consciousness or feeling cannot be derived from the laws of physics or mathematics

2. No scientific theory can explain how the brain produces subjective states elaboration

3. It is an undeniable fact that we are aware of our own existence. But if consciousness is only an illusion, how can it be aware of its own existence? How does man know that he exists?

4. If consciousness is a product of language or thought then how can language know about its own existence? When man says “I think therefore I am” how does he know that he is having thoughts?

5. Pain and pleasure cannot be derived from the laws of physics or mathematics – no matter (particles and forces) can feel, nor can mathematical equations

6. A mechanical universe which arises from nothing or the void is a logical absurdity.

7. A mechanically ordered universe which is eternal is a logical absurdity: how can there be something rather than absolutely nothing?

8. Uniquely different mechanical universes which are produced innumerable times through some uncertainty – necessarily a-causal and therefore non-mechanical - is a logical absurdity.

9. The idea that matter is “inanimate” or non-sentient is not science but a metaphysical construct which contradicts the very existence of conscious life – us!
